This is my vlog discussing the impact that Crystal Pite has had on the industry and the ways in which she has achieved this within the community and on a global and cultural scale.

This is a very good vlog Daisy. It is very professional and clear for the viewer. I am interested to know in what way do you think Pite discussing her views on certain issues will have an impact globally?
ReplyDeleteThankyou Sadie. By sharing her views through a creative source Pite will be able to start discussions on these topics and generate questions and interest for her audience. In my opinion, conversation is the start of change for global issues, as once they are talked about and more people become aware, action begins to be taken to solve the issue. By spreading her thoughts through dance, Pite will able to reach a wider variety of people, as dance has no language and the emotions that she portrays in her piece can be felt by everyone. This way of talking about serious, modern day issues is unique and inspiring and is much more interesting and engaging than newspaper articles and posters, that sometimes fail to make an impact on a global scale.

ReplyDeleteWell done Daisy, this is a very clear and detailed vlog, I really enjoyed watching it. What cultural issues does Pite explore in her pieces?
ReplyDeleteThankyou Megan. Pite looks at cultural issues such as hierarchy in the industry, particularly in ballet companies themselves. For example, her piece called 'Emergence' challenges this hierarchy, by looking at the collaboration of many, inspired by bee swarms. Pite herself also challenges cultural stereotypes as a female choreographer. Pite says "Girls are less likely to be prized for being a maverick", but doesn't allow herself to be disadvantaged due to her gender and embraces her talent in this section of the industry.

DeleteI really enjoyed watching your blog. I wondered whether you felt that more choreographers should impact the community by touching on relevant topics?
ReplyDeleteThankyou Niamh. Yes I believe that the creative industry will be a great place to generate conversation about modern day issues. Choreographers have a great platform to explore their opinions and ideas and share these with their audiences, and so I think that by creating pieces about more relevant topics, they will be able to catch the attention of the community in an interesting and thought-provoking way.
